Masks

We all wear different masks

during work, play, or school

in hopes that our true selves

are not exposed for ridicule.

But the mask that concerns me the most

is the one we use when we write.

Are we being honest with ourselves

as the ink flows through the night?

I would like us remove this shield

and show everyone who we are.

Let us help each other not be afraid

to reveal even the tiniest scar .
